Variant Expands, Vaccine Works

On January 3rd, we warned of a powerful new variant that is spreading, but the vaccine works to prevent it. More, it was first discovered in virus Great Britain.

At the time, researchers were concerned that it would quickly spread in the States, too. This past Friday, Dr. Fauci gave an update on the variant. The story was reported by CNN.

The good news is that the vaccines currently being administered provide a strong defense against the strain, also known as the B.1.1.7 variant.

However, the strain is believed to now account for 30-40% of all new COVID-19 cases in the Inited States. That is because it spreads easier than earlier strains of the virus.

And worse, research shows that it is substantially more fatal than earlier strains of the virus. One study pins that at 64% .

Thus, vaccinations are more critical than ever.

COVID-19 is a vaccine-preventable disease. And everyone 12 or older in the United States can now get a free vaccine regardless of their immigration or health insurance status.

Vaccines are safe.  And they are effective. Also, the vaccine works to prot from this powerful, new strain.
