A recent study shows that COVID-19 vaccinations have already saved over 250,000 lives in the U.S. And this number will only increase over time.
The study was conducted by researchers at the Commonwealth Fund and Yale University.
And they determined that the vaccine program has already had a significant impact. More, they estimate the vaccines to date may have saved 280,000 lives. And they prevented a million hospitalizations.
The data they utilized looks at the pandemic when earlier strains dominated. But today, the Delta strain is widespread. And it is much more aggressive than earlier strains. Thus, the number of lives saved may actually be higher.
In part the report says:
The vaccination campaign markedly curbed the U.S. pandemic. If there had been no COVID-19 vaccination program, daily deaths from COVID-19 would have created a second wave (a “spring surge”) — of nearly 4,500 deaths per day — potentially larger than the first wave of the year, which peaked at 4,000 deaths per day in January.
Over 250,000 lives are a good start. But we must continue the fight.
