Vaccine strongly Encouraged during Pregnancy

This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published new data and strongly encouraged those that are pregnant, to get the shot.

And it also extends to those planning to become pregnant and those currently breastfeeding, too.

Here are the key takeaways from the CDC update:

Vaccines are safe. Evidence about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy has been growing. These data suggest that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh any known or potential risks.

No fertility impact: There is currently no evidence that any vaccines cause fertility problems in women or men. And they are proven very safe by the millions that have received them.

Higher Risk. Although the overall risk of severe illness is low, pregnant and recently pregnant people are at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 when compared with non-pregnant people. And this includes hospitalization and intensive care. Additionally, pregnant people with COVID-19 are at increased risk of preterm birth and might be at increased risk of other adverse pregnancy outcomes, compared with pregnant women without COVID-19.

Thus, you are strongly encouraged to get the shot.
