Red Alert: Future Variants of Concern

Vermilion Red block emergency

This is a red alert on a new Covid variant that is beginning to take hold. It is known as BF.7.

Regularly, we discuss that with the passage of time, Covid-19 will continue to mutate. And this creates new strains.

New strains are different. In some cases, they appear to spread easier. And with others, vaccines and other control measures may be less effective.

Omicron first began to emerge at the end of 2021. And since then, several new strains have become the dominate strains. And now BF.7 cases are rising.

It still makes up a small number of new cases in the United States. And it has gained a stronger footprint in some European countries.

But there are several alarming discoveries with it. First, it appears easy to transmit. Second, there are concerns both about the efficacy of existing vaccines and treatments.

One step we can all take to reduce the spread and impact of new variants is to stay current on all vaccines and boosters.

Today, Covid is a vaccine-preventable disease. Vaccines are safe. And they are effective. More, even though there are “breakthrough cases”, they help to reduce serious illness.

How to get Vaccinated

There are many options. And many drug stores, Walmart and others provide it. And at no cost. Here are some methods:

Walk right in!

Today, many stores and clinics offer walk-in service. And an appointment is not necessary.  Thus, you can walk in. And get the shot.
