No Appointment Necessary

Walk right in illustration

Walk-in, no appointment necessary vaccines are available at many stores and clinics nationally. And you can quickly receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

An earlier version of this story was published on September 4.

We know from first-hand experience: Because we did it.

However, it is easier to schedule in advance. Schedule directly or go through a national scheduling service. By phone, appointments can be made nationwide by calling 800-232-0233. Online, visit vaccines.gov.

At first, there was a lengthy wait for the COVID-19 vaccine. In fact, only certain groups were eligible. But overtime this changed; and today it is a fast process.

Easy, fast and convenient

Many national pharmacies such as Rite Aid and CVS provide on-site vaccinations. We visited a Rite Aid Pharmacy and completed the full process in under 30 minutes.

There was a choice between the single dose Johnson & Johnson, or the two part Moderna.

We had to provide a photo ID and fill out a short form. And then we were vaccinated! The actual vaccination took only a split-second. Then, we were required to wait 15 minutes to monitor for any adverse reactions. And then we were done!

Also, they provide a vaccination card that records the date, lot number and other data.

They also schedule the second dose. And it is only on a specific date and not a specific time. This is flexible. And it is also convenient.

Some other clinics may be able to provide this service, too. Vaccines are kept in a frozen state. And a small batch is thawed daily. But often there are spare doses. And some clinics prep doses for walk-ins, too.

It is free. And is key to halting the pandemic. So please, walk right in!
