The Delta Variant

In the last six weeks, new cases have sky-rocketed. And this surge is largely due to the delta variant. It is a new strain of the virus. And has been spreading rapidly in the United States. In fact, 95% of new cases are caused by this variant.

It appears to spread much easier and faster than other strains.

Over time, viruses mutate. And they create new strains. With COVID-19, this is regularly occurring, too.

New strains are different. In some cases, they appear to spread easier. And with others, vaccines and other control measures may be less effective.

In fact, on June 22 we issued a red alert on the variant. And we recommended everyone to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible. More, this is partially due to the fact that a single shot of the vaccine is far less effective in stopping the strain than both does. Thus, being fully vaccinated offers far more protection.
