COVID-19 can cause a chronic syndrome in some, as recognized today by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Today they released a report on a new syndrome tied to the virus. And for some, it is dangerous. More, it is technically called “multisystem inflammatory syndrome” (MSI—A). But often it is simply known as “long Covid” or “chronic Covid.”
The CDC made its findings based on data collected worldwide identified similar symptoms in patients.
More, infection from the virus causes complications for some. And it could be as high as one in three patients.
On June 1, we published a report on a new syndrome seen in some children. The symptoms are similar. It is “Pediatric Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome” or MIS-C for short.
We also wrote about lingering ailments in adults.
It sets in after recovering from the virus. The symptoms are fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. But they can vary.
Future research will study these ailments more.
The best way to protect from the syndrome is to reduce exposure to the virus. More, everyone should follow key preventative steps. Namely, they should practice social distancing, wearing a mask, hand washing and to avoid touching of the face. Our key mask messages are:
Masks Telegraph a Key Health Message
A mask is a health message. Wearing one telegraphs an important health message.
A mask reminds the person wearing it that the virus is serious. It also reminds others of the same message, too. Please set a positive example for others. Wear a mask.
Masks Protect the Person Wearing the Mask
Masks help protect us from the virus. This is key.
Masks Protect Others, too
Masks also protect others if we have the virus. It can be days before symptoms appear. Yet, you could still spread it. Also, some people carry the virus but never experience symptoms themselves.
Please wear a mask. And encourage others, too.
