Before you reach for your hand sanitizer, please read this: Toxins have been found in some brands and have been recalled.

More, this is our third report on Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recalls of hand sanitizer. Now, the list has grown to over 150 brands.

In June, the FDA found brands with methanol, wood alcohol.   Methanol is toxic if absorbed through the skin or ingested. Now the FDA has found another toxin in some brands.  It is 1-propanol.  Yahoo News reports that it is mainly an industrial solvent.  The FDA has found brands containing this chemical.

If on the list, the FDA recommends disposing of it in hazardous waste containers. And do not pour it down a drain.

If exposed, consult a doctor.  And do not wait.  Treatment is critical to reverse poison.

Although all persons using these products are at risk, children are especially at risk. Please visit the FDA website for more information.

Hand sanitizer use has exploded, as a front-line defense against the pandemic. And their use will continue for some time.

More, there are other key preventative steps to follow, too. Namely, to practice social distancing, hand washing, to avoid touching the face, and to wear a mask.
