Older Adults and Covid Vaccines

Protecting older adults from Covid is essential. And vaccines are a powerful tool to achieve this.

Since the start of the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been producing a regular video series on different topics relating to the pandemic. It is known as Science in 5.

Their most recent video looks at the impact of Covid on older adults. Specifically, it examines what data has been collected thus far. More, it looks at the effect vaccines have. And also the experience of different countries in vaccinating older populations.

More, older adults can now receive booster shots that have been reformulated to target Omicron subvariants. And they are available nationwide.

The boosters are important because they target the Omicron variant. And it first began to emerge at the end of 2021. And since then, it has become the dominate strain. But at the same time, it continues to mutate, creating new strains.

One step we can all take to reduce the spread and impact of new variants is to stay current on all vaccines and boosters.

Today, Covid is a vaccine-preventable disease. Vaccines are safe. And they are effective. More, even though there are “breakthrough cases”, they help to reduce serious illness.
