Covid-19 Research

This page generally discusses our future plans to highlight a research focus on COVID-19. Our work on this begins in summer, 2021. Going forward, we need a wide spectrum of research. And we need it on a global scale. More, this will take many years. Further, it is also needed to prevent the next pandemic. This is vital.

Worldwide, experts are working on vaccines. But this is just one element of research.

Research will examine key clinical questions that are just emerging. And another key goal is to prevent future pandemics.

More, this guide looks at a few potential research areas. But it is not an exhaustive list.

The role of academic and nonprofit research

Historically, academic institutions have played a big role.  Today, they continue. And are central in the fight against the virus.

Vaccines

Vaccine distribution has begun. But development on new vaccines will continue for many years.

More, critical information is still not known about vaccinations in use. Namely, for how long they will be effective.

Public Contribution to Research is Key

Public support makes a substantial impact.  It is key.

Experts place the immediate funding shortfall around $10 billion. Thus, funding is urgently needed.

This short video highlights the need to support research.

Research Focus: Secondary Complications

After recovery, some patients still experience ailments.  And this is very common. Furthermore, research is necessary to unlock the dynamics of these ailments.

In May 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognized one such a syndrome afflicting some young children.  And later in adults, too.

More, research will directly benefit millions worldwide.

Research Focus: Long-term Research

Research will continue for many years. And this lists some general research questions:

  • Identify secondary syndromes
  • Also develop interventions and treatments
  • And new vaccines
  • More, answer key clinical questions
  • Also study transmission dynamics
  • Next, study asymptomatic infection
  • Last, process collected datasets

Last, we are committed to support a wide spectrum of research for years.
